Third Space. Second Home. First Choice.

Hi, I’m Cath, and I’m a self-proclaimed Coffee Snob.

This is a line I’d never ever dared to utter a few months ago. To be honest with you, I wasn’t ever aware there was the difference between a Cappuccino and a Flat White. And I didn’t have a clue what the words written on the bags of ground beans in my cupboard actually meant. Coffee was coffee, and I liked coffee. That was all I needed to know.

Everything changed the morning I walked through the doors of thirdspace.

Nestled between a curtain shop and a car workshop, thirdspace can be found in the heart of Cedar, Johannesburg. Built from inspiration of co-working spaces in Japan and Thailand, this spot has become somewhere that many people use as an addition to their home and work spaces. It’s a space that is everything you need it to be; a quiet place to focus on your upcoming work deadline, a place to meet with new clients, or a place to enjoy an incredible cup of coffee.

Because the space doesn’t serve one specific need, it’s a space used by people working in numerous fields. And, as sharing desks is encouraged, there is always an opportunity to meet and engage with someone new. It’s not only a great way to build new personal relationships, but also to build your business connections, too.

In addition to providing a strong sense of community, thirdspace also prides itself in educating people about their coffee beans. The team believes that, as Africans, we should be directly supporting other Africans in their ventures. So in attempt to eliminate the middle men, beans are purchased from the farmers themselves. I’ve spent my fair share of time chatting to the baristas about this, and I’d definitely recommend chatting to them about the story behind their coffee beans.

No matter who you are, or what you do, thirdspace is a spot I’d definitely recommend you check out.
